Snow

I retired about a year and a half ago. During all the time that we have been living out here in the country, and driving the long distances to work and back - while I enjoyed the look of snow (somewhere else), I hated it here!

Why?

Try driving 2 miles on back roads to get to the main highway, after it has snowed even just a little! Road maintenance crews don’t touch our road until almost the last.

Oh, and BTW - did I tell you that our driveway is 400 feet back from the road. No way is my DH going to plow it!

In our area, as I guess in many states that don’t normally get snow - people drive crazy. If it snows, they either drive so slowly that other people have to try and get around them, or they drive much faster than the roads can handle - you get the picture.

When it snows here - while we were still working - we ended up taking a lot of leave - to avoid all the possible dangers on the road. And the tremendous extra time that it would take to get to work. We were already driving an hour under normal conditions.
And where we worked, there were so few times management shut down for the weather, that staying home became each worker’s decision.

Why do I bring up snow today?

When we went to visit our son in the hospital, we noticed snow flurries every once in awhile. And driving back home, there were more flurries. Hating snow kicked in, since the drive to the hospital is about 45 minutes. And people have not changed!

Now if I were at home, and didn’t have to go anywhere to visit anyone… I’d love the snow - and the more the better. But let’s get real here. I’m not a shut-in. I go to the store, to visit friends, and doctor appts. Will I ever really love snow?

And my daughter, who lives in Georgia, always complains where we get snow here - she so much loves snow and would like to live where it snows a lot. Good for her!

My daughter who lives in Fargo - has more than enough snow. Maybe she can send some to her sister.
