Thoughts on crochet patterns
March 5, 2007 at 9:10 am | In Crochet |While I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, I lost all my hair. I’m very cold natured anyway - so my head was always cold (w/o the hair) even when I was sleeping.
I had done some searches on the internet to find crochet patterns. Really love to crochet!
Found some really easy ones and began crocheting little skull caps that I could wear around the house and to sleep. Even took to wearing them when I went out - which wasn’t very often.
This one is made with New Bernat Cool Crochet yarn - 70% cotton and 30% nylon in the Summer Cream color. Used a G crochet hook.
This one is a single crochet skull cap, made with Caron Simply Soft Tweed yarn - 98% Acrylic and 2% Rayon in the White color. Probably an F or G hook.
And this one is a double crochet skull cap made with Caron Simply Soft yarn - 100% Acrylic in the Embroidery Paint color. Probably an F or G hook.
Since I have crocheted for years, and had so many patterns already - most of them in my filing cabinet - you would have thought I would have everything I needed. But at that point - I guess I was too tired to go looking. Much easier to find and print off the web
The organizing that I did this weekend, see previous post, led me to find patterns and magazines from the ’70s. Talk about not being able to get rid of anything. I went through them yesterday, and would you believe, I still couldn’t throw them away. I’m sure that someday I will try some of the patterns for afghans that I found.
I found a really cute hat pattern that I’m going to try this week. Maybe after I make it - I’ll post the picture. In the meantime… where are my crochet hooks

There seems to be a tradition connecting crochet and charity. I often get requests from charities for crochet items. I regularly donate hair to Locks of Love, so why not hats too? I also have a hard time throwing stuff away. It’s like if I keep it, I’ll remember how to do it … even though I still look it up on the Internet rather than finding the pattern in one of my boxes. … Great blog, by the way.

Hi,
My name is Susan Ripley and I am a working with Ripley Designs, Inc. on gathering knitting and crochet patterns for the 2009 Pattern-A-Day Calendars from Accord Publishing. I am contacting you today in the hopes that you will hang the attached flyer somewhere in your store or post it to your website / BLOG to let your customers know about the design contest and the chance to get their designs published. You could also email the flyer if you have a mailing list. Patterns are accepted from individuals, shops, charities and yarn companies. There are no restrictions and the patterns can also be something that is currently being distributed for free.
Some of the yarn shops that have worked with us in the past have also offered fun pattern design/writing classes. This is a great way to get customers into your store while taking advantage of this great contest. $500 will be awarded as First place for both calendars; there are also 2nd and 3rd place prizes; and all contributors whose patterns are used will receive a 2009 calendar.
Please go to our website at http://www.knittingpatternaday.com and learn more about the submission requirements and our contest. If you have any questions, please contact me and I will gladly answer your questions. If your email program stripped the PDF, you can download the flyer at http://knittingpatternaday.com/images/designcontest.pdf
Thanks,
Susan Ripley
