Furnace woes continued

What started out being a brief mention in my last post about our furnace not working right – has grown into an issue of concern.

The repairman got to our house about 4pm that day, looked it over, checked things out, and couldn’t find out what the problem was. Maybe a circuit, a switch, dirty lines, etc. He said he would be back the next day.

Showed up at almost 4pm again, and finally came to the conclusion that there was a crack in the heat exchange. Whoa – we were looking for something that would be easy to fix, and not a lot of money – after all, we just went for a vacation – right?

Not only is the heat exchange expensive – tho not as expensive as replacing the furnace – but it’s on backorder, and could be as long as 2 weeks before we get the furnace fixed.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t like my house being cold at night – but I guess we’ll live with it, the house is well insulated.

We are currently running 2 oil based heaters – they look like radiators – during the night to at least keep the pipes inside the house from freezing. It gets pretty cold over night right now. We have a waterbed, so it has a heater that’s on all the time – that keeps the bed toasty, and we have carpet on most of the floors, so at least when I get up during the nite, my feet won’t freeze :) .

I guess it could be worse – we could live in the northern part of the US where they are inundated with snow and cold. Here, in southern Virginia – near the coast, it only gets down to 20 or 30 at nite.

More later….
